What is it really? Well, simply put, you have different organizations provide certain services. Yes, this
is your taxpayers money. You have to fall into certain categories. And you have to wander through an eligibility
process. It could be easy, it could be long, depending on the region. Uh, by they way, each "region" has it's
own board.
- Core Services: Anyone can get help. You want to look for jobs, read material for job searches, use the bathroom..that
kind of stuff.
- Intensive Services: Oops, getting a little more complex here. You have to go through what some call an "orientation"
"Gateway Services" what ever. You have to provide your family information, income and fill out a bunch of paperwork
( I know it the 21st century but we are not paperless yet.) After all this, a staff person will determine if you are
eligible under one of two categories:
- Adult: You must be a a certain level of income. You may be required to do other things like job search, research
on occupations for schools and/or talk to a Career Counselor.
- Dislocated: You lost your job! Not because you got fired or that type of thing. The company had to lay
off people (because of this little thing we call economics) However, this was not a fault of your own.
- Training Services: You've done all the paperwork and are determined eligible. Guess what? You
can get retraining.
Stay tuned for the next article about retraining. What you will hear will amaze you!
